Education Opportunities

Whether you are a buyer, homeowner, renter, or even home seller, there are lots of education opportunities available for those who wish to learn more, in addition to the always useful library and internet. This page is dedicated mainly to those LOCAL resources and classroom/lecture type opportunities regarding all aspects of living here. Please feel free to submit additional topic suggestions.
Alaska Housing Finance Corporation (AHFC):
Right now AHFC doesn't seem too keen on lending money, since their interest rates for even the long-sought-after programs such as first time homebuyer or veteran's mortgage preference still higher than the joe-off-the-street rates offered by lenders--even after a recent (Spring 09) large rate drop. However! They still offer a good range of classes and information that ranges from helpful to absolutely essential (depending on your sitiation).

They offer a good basic buyer introduction/education class called: HomeChoice. From this page, you can see a class summary, sample the workbook provided in class, see the schedule for upcoming classes in your area and even register for the class! Portions of this class are also helpful to homeowners looking to learn more.
Cold Climate Housing Resource Center (CCHRC)
FABULOUS resource! Library, classes, tours, workshops and more--this site AND this facility is worth at least several hours of your time, ESPECIALLY if you are a homeowner and plan to stay a while.
